Troy Caupain is a 6’4, 210 pound guard for the Orlando Magic and the Lakeland Magic of the NBA G-League.
The New York City native attended the University of Cincinnati for all four years and seriously left his mark. In his freshman season, Caupain played backup to starting point guard, Sean Kilpatrick, soaking up as much court time as he could. Not long after, Caupain fell into the lead role at Cincinnati. As a sophomore, Caupain averaged 9.4 points and 3.6 assists per game and this was getting him recognized. That year he was named Honorable Mention All-AAC, and as a junior, he was named to the First Team All-AAC. Caupain led the team in scoring and assists with 13.0 points and 4.8 assists per game while contributing to a strong 22-11 season.
Caupain received high praise coming into his senior year as he was voted the ACC Preseason Player of the Year - Where he averaged 10.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists. Caupain, continued his solid play, finishing sixth in Division 1 with a 3.36-to-1 assist to turnover ratio. In his college career, Caupain set a school record of 515 assists and scored a total of over 1,300 points.
After a respectable college showing, Caupain entered the 2017 NBA Draft, where he would go undrafted. He pickup up a summer league contact from the Toronto Raptors, as well as a training camp invite from the Orlando Magic. After being waved, he was acquired by the Lakeland magic of the G-League. For the 2018–19 season, Caupain signed a two-way contract with the Orlando Magic. Under the terms of the deal, Caupain will split time with Orlando Magic and the Lakeland Magic.
Troy has been lighting it up in Lakeland and is hustling hard every day to prove he belongs in the NBA. We’re excited to see this young man develop his game and continue to produce at a high level on the court.
